Can you settle a loan with L&T Finance?
Yes. L&T Finance can accept a reduced, one-time payment to close an overdue loan under its board-approved settlement policy. This is called a One-Time Settlement (OTS). The offer must be in writing on L&T Finance's letterhead, you pay L&T Finance directly, and the account is closed with a No-Dues Certificate.
L&T Finance loan settlement is usually considered for personal loans, business loans, and consumer durable and vehicle loans that have been overdue for several months, where full repayment is no longer realistic. NBFCs follow RBI's Fair Practices Code and recovery rules just like banks, and fall under the RBI Integrated Ombudsman.
What L&T Finance accepts depends on how long the account has been overdue, your income and genuine hardship, whether the loan is secured, and its own settlement policy. No one can promise a fixed percentage in advance; anyone who does is guessing.
About L&T Finance and settling with it
L&T Finance is the lending arm of the Larsen & Toubro group. It focuses on retail loans: personal loans, two-wheeler loans, farm equipment loans, rural business loans to women borrowers, and home loans.
Borrowers usually come to us with L&T Finance personal loans or two-wheeler loans. Rural group loans are collected through field staff, so harassment complaints often involve visits rather than calls.
What borrowers usually owe L&T Finance
- Personal loans
- Two-wheeler loans
- Rural business (microfinance) loans
- Farm equipment and home loans
Worth knowing · head office Mumbai
- Each L&T Finance loan is settled separately; list all of them.
- Field visits must follow RBI's rules on recovery conduct.
- For vehicle loans, the settlement should include the hypothecation release.
When does L&T Finance consider a settlement?
Lenders rarely settle an account that is being paid on time. Settlement usually comes up as an account moves through these stages:
- Stage 1
1–30 days
Reminder calls and late fees
- Stage 2
31–90 days
Collections team, penal charges
- Stage 3
90+ days
Account classified NPA
- Stage 4
Written off

A written-off account still legally exists: L&T Finance can keep recovering it. Settling closes it for good.
L&T Finance settlement vs restructuring vs full closure
| Settlement (OTS) | Restructuring | Full closure | |
|---|---|---|---|
| You pay | A reduced one-time amount | Full amount, new EMIs | Full outstanding |
| Best when | You can't repay in full | Income dip is temporary | You can afford it |
| Time to close | Weeks to a few months | Years of EMIs | Right away, if affordable |
| Recovery calls | Stop after payment | Stop if EMIs are paid | Stop after payment |

How to check your L&T Finance settlement letter
A genuine settlement letter from L&T Finance should show all of these. If one is missing, ask for a corrected letter before paying.
- L&T Finance letterhead with an authorised signature
- Your name and loan or card account number
- The exact settlement amount and payment deadline
- Payment details of L&T Finance's official account
- That the amount is in full and final settlement
- A promise to close the account and issue a No-Dues Certificate
L&T Finance recovery agents: what RBI rules allow
Agents can
- Call between 8 am and 7 pm
- Visit with an ID and authorisation letter
- Remind you of dues politely
Agents cannot
- Threaten, abuse or shame you
- Call your family, friends or employer
- Call before 8 am or after 7 pm
If an agent crosses the line, complain in writing to L&T Finance's grievance redressal officer. If there's no reply within 30 days, go to the RBI Integrated Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in. See how our recovery harassment service handles this.
After you settle: your fresh start
Once you pay, L&T Finance issues a No-Dues Certificate and closes the account. The recovery calls stop, the notices stop, and the debt is behind you. Keep the settlement letter, payment receipt and NOC safely.
From here, rebuilding is in your hands. Check your CIBIL report 30 to 45 days later to confirm the account shows as settled, and raise a dispute with the bureau if it doesn't. Pay any other credit on time, and your score improves steadily; you can also later pay the waived amount to have the account marked "closed". Our legal experts guide you through this after settlement too.
Mistakes to avoid with a L&T Finance settlement
- Paying an agent in cash or to a personal UPI ID
- Accepting a verbal or WhatsApp offer
- Not collecting the No-Dues Certificate
- Ignoring legal notices and their deadlines
- Taking a new loan to pay the settlement amount
L&T Finance loan settlement FAQs
Does L&T Finance accept loan settlement?
Yes. L&T Finance settles overdue loans case by case under its board-approved policy, in line with RBI's 2023 framework for compromise settlements. It usually considers settlement once an account is several months overdue and the borrower shows genuine hardship. Every offer should come on L&T Finance's letterhead.
How do I get a settlement letter from L&T Finance?
Once the lender approves a One-Time Settlement, it issues a settlement letter on its letterhead with your account number, the settlement amount and the payment deadline. Don't pay against a verbal promise or a WhatsApp message. Pay only after the letter arrives, and only into the lender's official account.
What is the L&T Finance loan settlement contact number?
Use only the customer care number or email printed on your L&T Finance statement or on L&T Finance's official website, or visit a branch. Numbers shared on social media or by agents can be fake. Legal Savvy is independent of L&T Finance; our legal experts negotiate with the lender on your behalf.
Can L&T Finance recovery agents call my family or visit my home?
Agents working for L&T Finance must follow RBI rules: contact only between 8 am and 7 pm, carry an ID and authorisation letter, and never threaten you or contact your family, friends or employer to shame you. Log every breach; it can be taken to the lender and the RBI Ombudsman.
Can I get a loan again after settling with L&T Finance?
Yes. Settling closes the debt, stops recovery calls and gives you a clean starting point. Your CIBIL score improves steadily as you pay any other credit on time, and you can later pay the waived amount to have the account marked "closed". Our legal experts guide you on rebuilding your credit after settlement.
How long does L&T Finance loan settlement take?
Usually a few weeks to a few months after a complete proposal reaches L&T Finance. It depends on the lender's approval levels, how long the account has been overdue and whether it is already with a collections agency, a court or a Debt Recovery Tribunal.
Is it better to settle or restructure my L&T Finance loan?
If your income has dropped only for a while, ask L&T Finance about restructuring or a revised EMI first: it protects your credit record. Settlement suits borrowers who cannot realistically repay the full amount, because it closes the account at a reduced figure but leaves a 'settled' status.
